With his extraordinary, farsighted vision and the unstinting support of his wife Indira , who pledged her jewellery for the birth of Satkar restaurant (1952) which quickly established itself as a city landmark & popular meeting place, growing into the flagship of the Kamat empire. Over the years, he carefully groomed his sons & consolidated the business by Establishing prestigious restaurants in Mumbai , such as Samrat (1972), and Status (1980).

His distinguished contribution of more than 65 years earned Venkatesh Kamat, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Hospitality Industry.
